Your maid of honour is probably your best friend. She’s been by your side for years and now and she’s going to be by your side on the biggest day of your life. There’s no doubt that she wants to make everything perfect for you, so why not share this list of maid of honour duties with her?

1. Ready to help with wedding planning.
Whether the bride needs help with wedding DIY or just wants someone to bounce ideas off, the maid of honour should be there.

2. Always there for wedding dress shopping.
A fab maid of honour will offer advice and be super honest (and kind) about what looks great.
3. Organising the other bridesmaids.
The maid of honour is also chief bridesmaid so she should let the other maids know what they need to do and when.

4. Helping to choose the bridesmaid dresses.
The bride might want to choose the bridesmaid dresses herself but the maid of honour should definitely be there to advise and assist.
5. Organising the hen party!
They might have to delegate some smaller tasks to the other bridesmaids if it feels like a big job but thinking about what the bride would love to do is the most important thing.

6. Taking some of the stress off the bride.
The maid of honour could well be needed in the run up to the wedding so ask the bride what you can do to help and take the pressure off.
7. Making arrangements for the morning of the wedding.
On the day, the maid of honour should definitely make sure that the morning is perfect. Think arranging breakfast or snacks, sorting out the perfect playlist or just taking care of those last-minute jobs.

8. Creating an emergency kit.
Think about all the things a bride might need on the day and gather them together so whatever happens, there’s no need to worry.
9. Speaking to suppliers on the wedding day.
The maid of honour should answer any questions or calls from suppliers so the bride doesn’t have to.
10. Keeping everything on schedule.
They need to know when hair and makeup artists are arriving, how long the bride has to get dressed, what time the photos are taking place and when everyone needs to leave for the ceremony.

11. Organising the bridesmaids for the ceremony.
Making sure the other bridesmaids are all in position is definitely important!
12. Checking the bride’s dress, one last time!
Time for a final dress, veil and jewellery check before heading down the aisle.
13. Looking after the bouquet during the ceremony.
A maid of honour will hold the bride’s bouquet so she has her hands free to exchange the rings.

14. Any extra ceremony responsibilities.
It’s likely that the maid of honour might have other jobs like doing a reading, being a witness, handing over rings or even just keeping an eye on flower girls and ring bearers.
15. Being on hand throughout the day.
A brilliant maid of honour helps right through the wedding day and will keep an eye on what’s happening all the time.

17. Looking after the bride.
Making sure that she eats, doesn’t drink too much alcohol too quickly and is feeling great at all times. Also helping her with those tricky toilet trips!

18. Making a speech.
Lots of maids of honour now make speeches which is a great chance for everyone to hear how amazing and wonderful the bride is!
19. Look after all the little details.
If the top tier of the cake needs to be saved or if all the evening guests need to be given a token for a free drink when they arrive, the maid of honour should make sure all this happens.

20. Looking after her the bride after the wedding.
She might need to return hired items to the florist or props company, she might pick you up from the airport after your honeymoon and she’ll definitely be waiting to see you wedding photos!
