Choosing the right setting for your wedding is never easy, as most venues look stunningly flawless. However, with the right questions for your wedding venue, you'll soon find the place that is perfect for you. But what queries should you be making?
1. What is the capacity of the venue?
It might be that the dream setting of your wedding can only host a fortunate few, or it could be that you’re paying the big bucks for empty rooms. If you start your enquiries here, everything else will fall into place soon enough.

2. Does the venue do civil ceremonies?
Some venues will host a ceremony and reception together if they're licenced to do so, whereas others can only host your reception. Officiating a wedding takes some skill, you know! It's best to ask if your potential venue can do both to avoid any nasty surprises later down the line.

3. Does the venue have public liability insurance?
It’s not exactly magical to talk about insurance for your big day, is it? Still, do try to make sure that the venue can look after both you and your guests, and that they'll accept legal responsibility in the event of any mishaps. Your day needs to be perfect, and if it isn’t, you can at least blame someone else!

4. Are there any venue restrictions?
Some venues can be big spoil sports! Therefore, it's best to get all the negativity out of the way in one go. For example, you may need to adhere to a strict supplier list, confetti could be banned, and there may even be a policy against children attending. If you can’t turn their frowns upside down, scratch them off your shortlist!

5. Is there enough room for guests to park?
If there is limited parking, your loved ones need enough time to plan their journey together. Therefore, it's a good idea to get a feel for parking so that everyone has the time to make proper travel arrangements. It might be they need to use other parking services in the local area, so notice is key!

6. Is there on-site accommodation?
Some venues can offer you on-site accommodation and discounted rooms. If they don't have rooms for you, then they'll at least direct you and your partner to the best hotels in the area with your budget in mind. Still, it’s best to know in advance so you don’t kick up your feet and make yourself at home when it’s time to leave.

7. What types of entertainment do they allow?
While one venue might have a live band of their own, others might not have the technology to plug your phone into the nearby sound system. Therefore, some enquiries into the types of entertainment you can expect, or hire for yourself, are a good idea. Otherwise, it will be awkward sending your live band away if they’re not allowed to play…

8. Do they cater for vegetarians and vegans?
There're more vegetarians and vegans day-by-day, and it's likely there's at least a handful on your guest list. Try to make sure that your chosen venue has a plant-based menu so that everyone can tuck into a delicious dish or two!

9. Do they have disabled access?
Most venues will have disability access, but if your ideal setting is a historical location, it could be that modern updates like ramps, lifts and more aren't featured. In any event, it's best to make sure so that everyone’s included.

10. Can the venue be provisionally booked?
Try to book your venue provisionally so that other parties don't swoop in and steal your thunder. However, while some places will allow you to lock down a date for free, others may demand a deposit. Do some research to find out what you're comfortable with here, then make your move!
