Real Wedding - Jenny and Steve’s Handmade Autumn Wedding At Wasing Park

This stunning wedding venue in Berkshire was the perfect setting for a cosy autumn wedding.

“We first spotted Wasing Park on Facebook when a friend got married there. Before Steve had even proposed, I told him that I had found our wedding venue! At the time we were trying to move house and Steve wanted something with character and I wanted something with space. Usually the two things we were looking for aren’t found in the same place, however Wasing ticked both these boxes, so I knew he would love it! We loved the surrounding grounds and scenery, along with the characterful Castle Barn and suites for our guests and the modern look of the Garden Room. As soon as we visited, we knew it was the venue for us and we didn’t even bother looking at any others!” – Jenny

“We had hoped for a spring wedding, but as the date wasn’t available, we found one in October that fitted with our school holidays. We loved the idea of autumn colours, so our theme involved dark yellows, burnt oranges and charcoal grey. The plan was to create a warm and cosy autumnal theme, so things like hand-picked oak leaves, homegrown gourds and hot winter Pimm’s really helped set the scene.” – Jenny

“I went a bit craft crazy and made lots of the decorations myself! I’ve often toyed with the idea of starting a wedding stationery business, so when it came to our wedding I made as much I could. A photo ladder was turned into our table plan with leaves cascading down the sides, an Ikea kitchen greenhouse converted nicely into the perfect card box and hand-painted acorns made autumn-themed table scatters. The atmosphere was a relaxed and fun environment, which we think represented us perfectly!” – Jenny

“I found my dress in the second dress shop we visited. I introduced MOB Sue and MOG Sue, to which the lady replied ‘Hi, I’m Sue’. It felt like it was almost fate that we found the dress there! My dress was made by Essense of Australia and was café coloured with a white lace overlay. The subtlety of the colour made my skin glow and the vertical piping elongated my body, which at 5’2” made me feel amazing!” – Jenny

“Steve wore a grey checked three-piece suit. It took me forever to actually get him to a suit shop to start trying them on, but he eventually gave in and when we went to Slaters we ended up with reserved suits in just half an hour. We had a bit of a nightmare trying to find a knitted tie in the right shade to match our colour scheme, but luckily walked past a shop that had the perfect burnt orange tie and pocket square!” – Jenny

“My bridesmaids and I had an early start at my house on the wedding day, with the hairdresser arriving at 7:30 am. After some breakfast, we made our way to Wasing Park to meet my make-up artist, Charlotte Thompson, before moving to the bridal suite to put my dress on. I couldn’t have done it without Charlotte, she was just incredible! Our ceremony took place in the Garden Room. We didn’t write our own vows as we didn’t want the added pressure, and it was a good job as Steve messed up his words as it was! Our amazing page boy, Ollie, did a special reading and surprised us by adding dance moves for each line!” – Jenny

“After our ceremony, we had hot winter Pimm’s and ginger and lemongrass mocktails served with plenty of amazing canapés which went down really well. The Castle Barn was the setting for our wedding breakfast and we had a smoked bacon Scotch egg to start, fillet of beef with potato dauphinoise for the main course and a trio of desserts to round it off. For me, dessert was the best course as there was something for everyone to enjoy. In the evening, we had wood-fired pizza which was absolutely amazing!” – Jenny

“My favourite moment has to be marrying my best friend in front of our family and friends and being announced as the new Mr and Mrs Gair! For Steve, it was the evening after all the formalities were over, when he felt he could really relax and start to take in all of the wonderful moments of the day. If I could give any advice, I would say to make sure your day reflects you and your partner perfectly, and if you can afford it, hire a videographer. They will capture more than photos can on their own and plenty of moments that you would never get to see otherwise."
